This. Ask for some "goodwill" and see if the dealer will help you out.

If not, find an indie who has the proper reader and go there. Based on my small amount of knowledge, the fact that the warning is intermittent and does not effect how the car drives my guess would be a sensor reading poorly (ie MAF, one of the few o2 sensors etc).
