You are pretty much correct and how BMW will gain more money on this car. Based on what I am reading and hearing I am going to bet the car Bases for $53,000. Most people will get the premium package and most likely the Tech, so that will probably push the car to $60,000. BMW can charge whatever they want for options, which is good for them and they can package them up however they want and split them later (Audi did this with the RS4).
The bottom line is that BMW wants everyone to think that you are getting more of a car then the previous (are you really?) that the car is therefore more. With the Dollar being so weak they need to make sure they still make a profit. What better way to do it then to make everyone think that you are getting more for your money and oh ya, the "Gotta have" gadgets which pushes the car price way up.
