I'm curious, has anyone figured out if there is a missing piece of hardware?
I can't imagine there being one, as the car knows if the lights are on or off and it has light sensors for brightness of the iDrive screen. Seems silly to have another component to do that... Is there another module that has to be coded?

The Automatic Day/Night mode so far is not supported in the 3-Series iDrive. However, there is a coding variable that can be enabled in the CIC and then the Auto mode option is displayed in the screen, but it does nothing when selected.
