That kind of tire wear comes from too much abuse at the track beyond the heat envelope of the tire. They got them hot and didn't stop lapping when the car started sliding because the tires were too hot (probably a LOT of fun!, but wears the tires very fast).
Push any street tire til it gets greasy, and then keep pushing too hard, and this happens - fast!
