I think the free maintenance is only available in the US market -- might be available in a few others as well. I could be wrong about this though. Regardless, I don't think BMW would risk their global reputation just to save a few bucks on maintenance outlay in a few markets.

Naturally there's no harm in changing oil more often than prescribed, but I just don't want the hassle. If the manufacturer says I won't need an oil change for 15K miles, I'll take the peace of mind and enjoy driving every one of those 15K miles.
