Cracks in tires

BMW Canada has apparently told its service department managers to check all M3 tires for cracks. My car was in for the 2000 km run-in service, and there was an entry on my work order that an inspection had revealed small cracks in both front tires.

Apparently a couple of cars in Vancouver had serious issues with tires. My car was the first one delivered in Calgary. It was an early December 2007 build, arrived in Canada January 22, but I wasn't allowed to pick it up until after the official launch (I picked it up on March 10).

My salesperson says that he heard a rumour that speculated that some of the tires developed cracks as a result of sitting for a long period of time.

I understand that some tires have been replaced under warranty.
