Couple of tips:
*Use a lighter to heat the leather makes it easier to separate (used a flat head small screwdriver). Leather does not burn so no damage done to it. As already noted the OEM M3 takes longer than the m5 to separate the ring.
*Cut out enough for the tab to go in cleanly. When reinstalling, place a cloth over the ring then pound it in
*I would not glue due to all the small adjustments needed to make the m5 shift boot look clean.
All together 40 minutes while watching football. Happy with the results

Did the same tonight, but didn't use the lighter. Just used a butter knife to get the leather off of the stock ring. Took an hour total, not that bad.
