Anything else I should do while I'm in there if the damn thing gets too chintzy-feeling? I suppose pushing it multiple times per drive so I can use cruise control probably shortened its life, I bet they test to about 1,000 cycles since most people would leave it alone, and I'm well past that.

You broke the rear legs on the button. I did the same thing. I was lucky to find one from a used car and replaced the whole assembly with the DSC/Power button. Once you take it apart (your button will pop right out now that it's broke) you'll see the back is cheap looking with little clips.
