Yes, completely true. Corners are a lot closer together, no real point to track out as the next corner is so close that you will have no real speed advantage and are traveling farther so longer lap times. Most of the time you let it track out to set it up for the next series of corners, otherwise you stay tight to the apexes.
A lot of people say track/autocross are similar. They are actually very different driving disciplines and require some different driving styles. Track, you tend to be smoother and have lots of time to learn and memorize the course. Autocross, you have to react very fast, steer/countersteer a lot and you learn the course in 1 lap because it's a new course every time.
