I didn't do it on purpose . They just happened to come out with very little smoke in them naturally. I shot at a narrow aperture, between f/13-f/22 depending on the photo. I had my remote trigger and I would watch the fireworks go up and then right before I would think they were going to explode I would press the trigger and only leave the shutter open while the fireworks were going off.

I think the way they were being shot off helped too. As opposed to one continuous volley of fireworks they would shoot off a grouping and then there would be a 5-10 second delay between the next one.
