I drive 37 miles one way to work (74 miles round trip) and I use the M3 as a DD. However, during the winter months and/or bad weather I drive a Mini Cooper. The M3 is a great DD even with it's fuel consumption - I find that when I'm driving the Mini I realize how great the M3 is and can't wait for winter to end...
Personally, I'd order an e92 M3 now otherwise I'd be stuck waiting at least four years to buy the F80 M3/4 (definitely skip the first model year) plus miss out on owning the last NA M3 and the awesome V8!
