My M3 is garaged on snowy or slushy days. The last few years there have only been about 10 days a season where the roads were snow, slush or salt covered. I have a '09 Acadia or a '96 AWD Subaru to chose from.

I highly recommend a used AWD Subaru in lieu of wheels/snow tires. You can pick up a reliable one for well under $4k (snows plus wheels will be at least $2k). Plus it doubles as a dog hauler, sitting at the airport parking lot car, jet ski tow vehicle, or any kind of dirty work you don't want to use the M3 for. Mine will run 80 mph all day on the highway (although it takes a while to get there) and actually has neutral handling in corners. I bought some WRX 16" wheels off of ebay and they made it drive much nicer. Just my $.02
