I just wanted to also throw this out there. Had the exact same problem when I tinted my 335 rear window. The person tinting it said its not an issue of the tint sticking to the dot matrix. The problem is the gaps/space between the dots. Makes it hard for the tint to bond.
I asked him about applying a black vinyl strip. He said he would do it but I'd have the same issue as with the tint. He was right. Could still see areas where the black vinyl couldn't adhere correctly. It was less noticeable due to the dark color than the tint however. It's reasons like this that I won't tint my M3.
