What they are saying is they are happy to let customers drive at a safe 250 but for the extra 30km/h you need driver training. At the training I bet you will not even get close to 280. Makes no sense to me at all!

It's not just about making money; there is actually a reason behind this: Ever wondered why all German car makers (except Porsche) limit their cars to 250? There is an agreement between all those companies. So this is just BMW's way to avoid breaking the agreement.
