The Kumho V710 comes in 275/40 and 295/40-17. The Hoosier A6 and R6 come in the same 275 size, 295/35-17, and 315/35-17's. Lots of good DOT R-compound options in those sizes. The car can fit 295's in the front and 315's at stock or near-stock ride height with the right offsets. With 17" wheels if you're running the Hoosiers, you'd be saving about $100 per set of tires with the same width availability as the 18's.

That is not an E9X M3 offset which is why it did not clear. ET42 is for the E36 and non-m E46. These new wheels are not available in that size. 17x8.5" ET20, is a correct fit for the M3 front, and clears the brakes no problem. The other two M3 sizes are 17x10" ET25 and 17x10.5" ET27, but the 17x9" ET30 could be run easily with a 10mm spacer.
17x10" square with 275/40/17's should be a do-able setup. But We'll confirm it with a test fitment.
