Look at all the money WiziGuy dumped into his YSi Trim E46M3 before giving up before it was completed. Unless you are a welder and a fabricator with a machine shop or friends who have one, this will be a tough project.

I'm sure you can build the hardware and engine to pull the power. But as you said, finding the tools to properly tune the DME is the hard part. I imagine buying the software and files/maps to tune this DME to be INCREDIBLY expensive.
$2000 for someone to tune the car is actually much better than I expected...That sounds like it would end up being the more affordable route.
