From what others have said, the RS3 will heat cycle out and become pretty bad after a few track days, even with a a lot of tread left.
NT05 are probably the best bang for the buck now that TireRack is the only one selling the StarSpecs. Dunlop really needs to update that tire.

Was the tire pretty new? I've always read the AD08 and RS3 take the heat well.
