Being in the medical profession, all I can say is the longer you are in a comatose state, the less likely you'll come back. The sadest part is, even if he does make it, the hardest part is what would become of him. Being partially alive, getting your butt wiped, barely able to talk can be considered living by some. I don't judge. Everyone has there own definition of "quality of life". We still have young people in nursing home, and "home hospital" with bed sores, recurrent pneumonia etc. Going to be a tough one. My usual question to our patient's family member is does he have an advance directive, and what does he or she consider quality of life. Irregardless, this is truly sad for MS. I hope he truly pulls a miracle.
