Seriously I've been to some shitty places and I put India up there with Fiji (not the tourist spots, like the local places.) and Congo in terms of shittyness. It's better than Somalia tho in case you want to go there next.
you can hole up in a gated 5 star hotel eating burgers and fries and have private driver and body guard take you to go see taj mahal, then ya "India" is beautiful and modern. If you want to experience India for it's distinct culture and local flavor, you gotta go deep into the locals territory and that my friend is the butthole of earth.
