That was a bit of a judgement call and compromise on our part. Because the brake kit was sent to us in used/rough condition the rotor hats did not look great. We have experimented with a number of coatings, but have found that rotor hats in particular are a very bad environment for paints and other finishes- the high temperature wears paint extremely quickly and makes it difficult to keep a finish on a hat for any decent length of time. Many brake kit manufacturers make anodized hats as a result.

Given our available options, we chose to use high temp black paint for the rotor hats. The appearance is obviously not as good as an anodized brake hat, but high temperature paint is the most durable finish that was available to us with some of the constraints given for the project.
