We're on the same boat buddy. My car had everything I wanted except the silver interior, so took it. I have black extended as well, but extended on colors adds too much contrast IMO, especially with red. And as you said, it's too much hassle to replace. I wouldn't mind that much the contrast with silver, but would definitely mind tearing my car apart for the extended.
As a comment, having had red leather on my E46, it shows wear the fastest, so you have to make sure it's always conditioned (I always do that regardless of color). Good luck man, and keep us posted.

If you were local, had no extended, and your car was new like mine, I'd trade with you man. I see this kind of trade almost impossible to achieve mostly due to distance, but doesn't hurt to try.
