If you get the EDC and plan to keep the M for a long time, say 6-7 years, then I would recommend getting an extended warranty.
Come to think of it, I'd get the extended warranty anyways. Anything that breaks on an M is likely to be expensive...
Other than that, I think you should be able to get replacement EDC shocks at relatively reasonable prices in a few years. IDK, maybe $250-400 per shock? Or perhaps follow the forums, someone will surely rip out their EDC suspension at some point.
