M3 S65 engine has two pumps: #1 & #2, they collect oil from different places. E46 M3 has two pumps as well

1M N54 engine has single pump #1

M3 S65 oil pan is baffled preventing oil from leaving the separate compartment in the bottom of the engine, so the pumps can suck up the oil even during high gforce.

M3 S54 oil pan is the same.

now take a look at 1M N54 oil pan, it is not baffled. the oil is NOT contained in a separate compartment in the bottom of the engine, separated from the crankshaft by a metal plate that prevents "windage" of the oil.

Now tell me which one is really designed for track enthusiasts? Yes none of the M cars have true dry sump but at least the "semi dry" works well in protecting the engine.
