They are generally nuts about it in SF due to the hills. But now apparently they are running around ticketing people when it isn't nearly as obvious that you should. I was far from the only person.
I never should have parked on the street anyway, but after circling I was running late, and the nearby garage is one of those ones with absurdly small spaces, and is for a hospital so there's a lot of, let's say "less than astute" drivers in it. But that's better than $200 in tickets and potential street dings. Live and learn.
