Not necessarily. A older iPod can be used with 6FL and the iPhone can be kept in your pocket. I'm still a user of my 4th Generation 40G monochrome iPod from 2004 - it's my favorite iPod to date. The iPhone stays in my pocket, unless it needs charging.
iPods have been out since 2002, most people have replaced theirs since then. Features are the same, regardless what iPod you use.
