I'd echo Balls' recommendation - an old Buick mid-size would be mighty cheep; with a 3800 V6 it'd be practically indestructible - the car would fall apart around the motor - they also returned decent mileage with minimal maintenance. Plus, used Buicks generally haven't been driven to death - the owners normally don't outlive the car. Look for the ones with the AAA sticker 'off-center' and askew on the back bumper.
