Kawasaki, BMRLVR and others were 100% correct on the oil issue. Actually I would not be surprised if the publicity of the blown S85 engines/rod bearing wear and the S65 rod bearing clearance threads and oil threads got BMW's attention (they like many other corporations are on social media boards, as we know). Moreover, another board member getting a check for more than full value of his M3 which had spun bearings and ruined his engine is another indication that something is amiss that BMW/M is aware of. I don't think it's coincidental that the oil options have changed and is a big vindication of the opinions of experts on this board. Thanks for your contribution to the community.
