I think they are good. I did the E36M3 bump stops and trimmed strut tube guides to maintain as much suspension travel as possible. These are the mild H&R, not the more aggressive ones, but I still can feel them. My goal was to keep the car civilized and I don't find the compromise to be objectionable.
My decision was $200 for a used set of springs or $1000 or more for coilovers.
