The wheel & tire combo is placed on a computer balancing machine. (Hunter)
As the wheel & tire spins (like any other 'old school' high-speed balancing machine), a roller then applies a force of 1400 lbs. to the tire in order to simulate the weight of your car. This is done to dial in the balance of the wheel under normal driving conditions.
That's why it's called
ROAD FORCE balancing.
It's just a better, more advanced way to dial out a pesky wheel vibration issue. (that a conventional high-speed balancing machine can't)
Note: It's just as important to find a shop with an experienced operator, that can properly calibrate the machine and interpret the results correctly .
