The service involves replacing the brake fluid (all of it, including that which is in the lines) and not topping it off. And since brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs water) - it is a good idea to replace it on time, not miles, to limit system corrosion and impact to boiling point (and effectiveness). Mike Miller (technical editor for Roundel and Bimmer) recommends replacement every year. I think the car's computer recommends every 2 years. So go for the replacement as soon as possible. Good luck!
