Put my old car up on cars.com and craigslist. Got a few nibbles on both but sold it to someone from craigslist.

Got more than what I expected for it. Was worth about $6k in it's condition, was willing to part with it for $5k, but got someone to pay $5800. Not too shabby.

People will definitely lowball though. I had people offer me as low as $2k and $3k, I literally laughed at them. When they called me and gave me the offer I laughed and hung up. Stick with what you're asking. When you get to the $1-$1.5k difference area, then it really doesn't matter all that much. Remember they have to shell out some extra cash for sales tax too when they go to register it, so that is a big reason why people lowball you.
