Help with TPMS

Background: I have a production date 10/2010 M3 that came with the standard 18" wheels. I ordered a set of USED complete wheels (tires, sensors, etc ready to bolt on the car). They are the optional 19" style 220M that was offered for the E9X M3. They come off of a mid to late 2009 M3. I installed them on my M3 and the TPMS would not resett. The computer just said "resetting" for about 15 minutes while driving and then switched to "inactive". I've heard that BMW switched over to a different sensor around 2010 and so I assume this would explain my problem but I called the local dealer and he didnt know anythging about that. He assumes it might be a bad sensor in one of the wheels.
My question is: what can I do? Is it a matter of replacing the sensors, or can I do some sort of resett on the car to read these sensors? Anyway, I have an appt at the dealer on monday but I'd like to learn something before I go.
