If it's like the E46, that whole button assembly is one integrated unit and you must get different units for the different button configurations. Also, they operate through circuitry, so they're not like typical on/off buttons. you'd have to hack the circuitry or connect a button to a relay.
You could also do the rear fog switch install and use the extra button as Jinxter describes here (post #20):
