The new 47.1.1 CAS update resolves this issue...

If you're going to do anything, you can pick power, ground, or pin 6/14 for can hi or can low and just wire an inline switch to that. Any one of those four wires taken out of the loop will prevent communication with the car.

I chose to just perform the update and leave the physical hardware alone.
