I had an 08 E92 M3 and now a 2013 E92 M3 Competition Pack.

The looks are obviously different as comp pack is 10mm lower in ride height, M359 wheels.

The i-Drive is newer but to be honest, you won't be playing with it much. Although it has a hard disk to store your music, I found it much more convenient to buy a USB and plug it in.

All things being said, the only reason you would go with a 2010 or 2011 is for lower mileage cars with lower wear and tear.

If budget doesn't permit, a 2008 will bring you the same amount of joy as a 2013.

If you get a 2008, just make sure you update your ECU and DCT software to a newer version if it hasn't already been done by previous owner. Evolve, Alpine, BPM, etc can do it for few hundred bucks.

I would not be concern about EDC failing. Aftermarket options are plentiful without coughing out too much coins.
