If you don't want to deal with the issues of FI, I'd just go NA on your E36. Its way cheaper and easier to mod. You can get an E46M3 close to E9X M3 power levels but it will cost you a $1000's...might as well go back FI at that point.

My observation is that a stripped out E36 is one of the harder cars for me to catch at the track. Its light and still has good power and low end torque.
