In the product design world, the members of this forum constitute a user group that is referred to as "lead users." Lead users are not necessarily representative of the current general user population, but they exhibit extremely interesting behaviors and communicate distinct needs that might be relevant to future broader market moves and demands. Companies pay top dollar to consulting firms to learn from such lead user groups. It would be surprising if BMW was not at least keeping an eye on this and similar forums.
