The blue tips aren't necessary, but most people like it because it is a symbol, or hint that they have a Ti exhaust. Some people think it's ricey, some don't. I think Ti exhaust manufacturers need to also make polished and matte black tips in addition in the future.
Developing new tips would cost very little, and would accommodate every potential customer.
