Simple, really...if you need a convertible, you will not exploit the full potential of an M3, so buy a 335i drop top. On the other hand, if you are at all serious about track performance, you should not even be asking this question; the M3 coupe is the obvious answer. Or, just get an Ariel Atom; open air driving and more performance than you know what to do with. Good luck.
