What exactly does the active headreast consist of? I thought it had more to do with the structure of the headrest more than anything. How would that prevent the installation of monitors?

I do agree that I probably wouldn't do this in an M3. It just doesn't flow with the rest of the car. If you must, I doubt you will find anything manufactured. It would have to be a custom job and its going to be hard to match the leather if you need to get a custom wrap done.
