BMW's only trouble (ok there are others only viewed by the BMW fanatics so it is beside the point) is it is perceived to be less reliable than its competitors. In this regard both GM and Ford have done better in improving their own reliability.

Most of us will not be able to afford one, if we do, will have to settle with the cheapest models. The fact one can drive away in an M3 for 1/2 to 2/3 the price what someone else pays in Europe or China partly has to do with the US being the biggest market. For that to continue to happen, they have to cater to those non traditional BMW buyers.
