All of the buildings on Ocean Drive are over 50 years old. Some of them have been redone but they are not very luxurious and some of the rooms are extreeeeeemley small. Unless you plan on renting the penthouse of one of those hotels I suggest staying somewhere like the Fountainbleau or the Loew's. One of the newest clubs in Miami is in the Fountainbleau so it's perfect for the night life. Not sure what your budget is but if you are going to stay anywhere decent on South Beach right now, plan on $250/night minimum for a standard room.
