Only R8 I have seen on the Autobahn had dealerplates on it. Audi RS4's and Merc AMG's, I see those everyday I am out on the bahn.
One reason might be because of the premium these cars demand here in Germany, an M3 Vert loaded will set a German back 97-100k EURO, that is 120k dollars. The R8 I checked out the other day at the dealer had the nice price of 178k euro, roughly 220k dollars..... OUCH!!!

You are right, the high price of these cars in Germany (they are
even more expensive i other parts of Europe) combined with the high cost of petrol make thse cars quite rare. All US members should feel very lucky at the price you can buy and run these cars for in the US, you could be runnng a 330d over here for the same cost!
