I don't understand your logic at all in this. You want them to get a network drive instead of an additional internal HDD? Just because you don't like having a SSD and a HDD in the same box with each other?
There is nothing wrong with using a SSD as a boot drive, and having a HDD for storage in the same machine. If you notice a different here, I guarantee you will notice it being over a network...
