Springs should not need a box that big. Since they can't be broken, only scratched, they don't need a box much bigger than they are. It's also very dependent upon the distance.
You are assuming that they are 6" diameter based on the third dimension you listed there. That means that fours lined up side by side would be 24", not 5'. As for the third dimension, springs are far from 3' long. Half that at most.
