I think the M2 will have to be boxsterized. I don't think BMW wants anything in BMW's stable too close the M3 in terms of performance. The current 1M is close enough. I think they will give the M2 the inline TT 4 with less weight than the I6 235i to make the performance better than the 235i but no too close to the M3.
