Let's not get carried away here... the difference between the tweaked RS5 and the M3 is marginal at best from a performance perspective. We can argue about which is the better drivers car (which I do believe is the M3 but only based on what I have read as I haven't driven the RS5) but to say the RS5 is mediocre is silly. Cars at this level (M3, C63, ISF, RS5) are fractions of a second difference in all measureable performance situations. Seems to me it bested the M3 and C63 at the track in a recent Automobile Magazine review (if memory serves me). If the RS5 is mediocre, so is the M3 and we all know that isn't the case.
OP... I do believe the M3 is the better car if you want a car that is balanced, capable and track ready. The RS5 is stunning to look at, sounds great and would be a fantastic year round street car with its AWD. Personally I would pick the M3 but there is something appealing about the RS5 for sure.
