The stock system is horrible (IMHO) so yes it's worth it compared to stock.
However, it's not worth it compared to other systems out there (such as ones with HFCs) that actually give you a significant power improvement to go along with a significant weight reduction and sound improvement.
If you are on a budget, get the ESS system (sounds fantastic with no rasp) plus their tune. You will gain like 40 more HP and it won't cost much more than the BMW NONPerformance Exhaust.
