SAE says that as long as only width and offset change. Now in all fairness that was probably written with flat forging in mind. Not concave where they can change like you are saying.
I am not saying that a rim halve manufacturer has a liability in your wheels just that those products are tested on their own before the manufacturers get them. Obviously they could screw them up with powdercoating etc. I am talking multi piece wheels not one piece.
