I have never driven a Cayman S, but have gone against them on the track when I had my GT3. They are fast, no doubt. That car (and driver!) gained my respect. I was pretty suprised how capable the Cayman S was.........
Do I miss my Porsche? Yes and no. It was totally useless, unless I was tracking it. When I tracked it (and I did a LOT the first couple of years), it was pure bliss.
However, the M3 is a great car for what I need now....back seats, 4-doors, etc. I think it, and the C63, are the two best "sport sedans" one can buy. If you need the room, I would stay in the M, or go for a C63 if you have the "new car bug".
